A true gem – Albergaria do Calvario.
Never have we experienced a more perfect combination of a beautiful hotel, a warm and professional staff and outstanding food. This place was the highlight of our Portugal trip! They achieved to combine a historic building with all the modern amenities, including an underground garage. The staff was phenomenal, multi lingual, always looking for ways to make your experience more pleasant. they made restaurant reservations for us, mailed our postcards and had many suggestions that truly honed in on what we had hoped to see.
We had a superior room which was spacious & comfortable. We liked the way the renovations retained the essential feeling of this 14th century olive oil grinding mill while providing the amenities in the room that we like. The staff speaks several languages and offer any advice you seek. The breakfasts are gorgeous, especially sitting on the terrace, where a generous menu of custom options are delivered to your table piping hot. They serve the most delicious little pots of yogurt we’ve had in Portugal. The hotel has assembled a helpful pamphlet that we used to make sure we didn’t miss anything; the staff will make reservations for you at any restaurant you choose in Evora.
This was the best place we stayed on our 15 day trip to Portugal and had the most comfortable bed. Our room was spacious and had a private balcony. The staff was incredibly welcoming and helpful. We arrived hungry and were able to order a delightful soup and salad as we waited for our room to become available. During this time, the staff gave us maps of the city and a booklet of things to do in the area. They then detailed everything on the map and booked a tour for us. Breakfasts were fabulous and provided a large selection of cold food along with a huge menu of freshly cooked dishes. I would definitely recommend a trip to Evora, a stay at Albergario do Calvario, and a sight-seeing trip with Mario.
We spent two nights here while traveling through Portugal. Evora is a good base for exploring the Alentejo, and ADC is a wonderful hotel. All of the staff were exceptionally helpful in planning our time in the area – really outstanding service. When I made the reservation, I was disappointed that I couldn’t get a premium room because they were all booked, but the superior room was quite large and comfortable (and I saved 10 euros). This is definitely the place to stay in Evora.
We arrived after a long car journey to find the hotel ( believe it or not, exactly on the satnav locator) drove under the archway, straight into the underground car park only to be greeted by the hotel staff offering to take our luggage out of the car, escort us to reception and find us a cold bee immediately. If that’s not great service, what is. We found the hotel great value and would wholeheartedly recommend it to all for great all round accesibilty for Evora & just a great place to stay.
We just returned from a 12 day vacation in Portugal and this hotel in Evora was Excelllent! Months before our vacation I emailed back and forth with the staff and they arranged winery visits for us as well as made lunch and dinner reservations. They go out of their way to answer all your questions and help you plan a wonderful stay. I don’t think you could receive better service at the Four Seasons! Then there’s the breakfast! Hugh variety of food choices! All organic. I’m still thinking about the yogurt, it was that good! Thanks to all the staff for making our stay so amazing! I only wish we stayed more than 2 nights.
